This section presents the information of the research of multiple persons into the origin of the surname Leene.

The Leene family at the moment consists of two very large branches:

  • a branch with its origin around the City of The Hague in the Netherlands. These family members have a catholic faith. One can see this from their first names and their obituaries.
  • this branch has its origin around the ancient naval trading city Kampen. These family member have the protestant faith.

The expectation is that catholic branch came forth from the protestant branch. The size and width of the catholic branch is much smaller than the protestant branch. It seems that around 1750 ther first Leen came to the city of The Hague.
